Man arrested outside White House wanted to ‘assassinate’ Trump, police says

A man carrying a knife outside the White House told Secret Service agents that he wanted to “assassinate” President Donald Trump, a US police report allegedly says.

Roger Hedgpeth was arrested Saturday afternoon because he wanted to knife the president, the Associated Press reported Sunday citing a report obtained from the Metropolitan Police Department.

“I am here to assassinate President Donald Trump,” the 25-year-old told the Secret Service agents. “I have a knife to do it with.”

Hedgpeth, from Brandon, Florida, was reportedly carrying a 3 1/2-inch knife in a sheath on his left hip along with an empty pistol holster on his right hip.

It was not immediately clear where Hedgpeth lives or whether he had a lawyer but according to the AP, a telephone number listed in his name in public records rang unanswered.

In 2014, a knife-carrying Army veteran scaled a White House fence and dashed into the executive mansion before being caught.

Omar Gonzalez, 43, later pleaded guilty to two federal charges.
